Back to the doctor...

This morning, I called the doctor's office to see if I could still bring Ayla in tomorrow afternoon for the second half of her flu shot. And since she still had a mild fever, their answer was no, which I figured would be the case. The nurse I talked to asked if her cough had improved and I said it was worse. Since seeing Dr.Davey on Tuesday, she has become so hoarse and several times a day, it sounded like she was working so hard to breathe in. It was awful. It really freaked me out last night...I just laid in bed listening to her to make sure she was okay. The nurse wanted us to go back in so they could check her out especially since we would be traveling next week.

Again, she was upset as soon as we went into the room...Judy, the nurse, and Dr. Davey are both officially on her "you-are-scary-and-I-don't-like-you" list. I think Dr. Davey was trying to say it was stranger anxiety and I, with a little bit of hesitation, said it really was just the two of them. :) We kept her on my lap during the examination, thinking she may stay more calm...but she still ended up crying and throwing up. Darn it.

Dr. Davey said she has croup. I've heard of it but never really knew what it was. Basically, it's caused by a virus that causes the airway to swell up and the telltale sign of it is the hoarseness and "barky" sounding cough. It starts out with symptoms like the common cold...sneezing, runny nose, fever. He prescribed a steroid for a few days to reduce the swelling so she can breathe easier.

I'm hoping she's at the peak of it...it's really hard to see her not feeling well. She spent most of yesterday afternoon and evening on my lap with her head on my chest, which is so unlike her. Tonight, she did seem to have more energy so hopefully she'll wake up feeling better.

I have a lovely sinus infection myself and Dean is not feeling 100% so we are not a healthy bunch right now. And if there's a plus side to all of this snot and phlegm, it's that I'd rather it be now than while we're in Ohio.

Poor baby girl. I hope you all are well before you travel!
