Fun with the Hamanns

Last weekend, we made a quick visit to see our friends, Lee and Jen Hamann.  They used to live out in Elkhorn but have since moved into Omaha (not far from us, actually).  They still have land close to their old home and have built a "Man Cave" out there.  They have a huge garage area and actual living space attached to it that includes a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.  It's a perfect little getaway when they're out there working.

The girls each received a ride on the tractor and 4-wheeler and also got to pick wildflowers.  They were both pretty thrilled. :)

Yessssss.

Best part of the night right there. :) Notice, I have a sweatshirt on. In July. In Nebraska. Totally weird how mild the weather has been the past couple of days!

LASIK!

Guess who doesn't need any of this crap anymore?

This girl. :)

I had LASIK done on July 12th. I started to get super nervous the day before and decided to do the most intelligent thing I could think of to calm those nerves.  I Googled.  A lot.  So much that I was convinced that I was either: a) going to go blind and never get to see what my children look like as they grow up; or b) somehow manage to rub, bump, or mess with my eyes enough to cause the flap they cut to just fall off, thus, resulting in scenario a).  I was already trying to decide between a seeing-eye Great Dane or a seeing-eye pony. At the time of surgery, my decision was still unclear.

Turns out, none of that happened and my new eyeballs are utterly amazing.  I'm still in the midst of putting a billion eye drops in throughout the day (one of which makes me look like I'm crying milk), but a little over a week out, I'm seeing clearer than I've ever seen in my entire life.  I had no idea what I was missing.  Even with contacts or glasses on, my vision wasn't always the best.  Now, I find myself just staring...especially when I'm outside.  I'm floored by how crisp everything is.  Just like everyone said who's had it done, I should've done this a long time ago.

Besides the crazy factor of actually seeing a surgeon lifting a flap of my eyeball up and over and the burning scent of my eyes getting lasered, AND the first few I-hate-my-life hours afterwards, it was totally worth it. The surgery, which only lasted about a minute per eye was done at about 2:30 p.m. Dean brought me home, I climbed into bed and kept my eyes shut (with the exception of putting drops in every hour) and slept until about 8:30 that night.  By 9:00, I was downstairs eating dinner and watching TV with very little discomfort (with my really attractive post-surgery sunglasses on, of course).  It was nuts.  I still can't believe it worked.  Every morning and night, my routine is completely thrown off because I don't have to start out by putting in or taking out my contacts. I end up standing there confused for several seconds and not knowing where to start.  So weird. :)

Dean is scheduled to get his eyes done in about three weeks! Woo-hoo! :)

She's had a bow on her head since the day she was born...

These are from a few weeks ago...she was running around the house in her cute sundress and huge flowered headband and I kept catching myself staring at her.  Her hair was perfectly messy and she just looked so pretty.  Sassy little thing.

Bryson + Natalia's Wedding in Chicago

I posted a handful of Instagram photos while we were in Chicago for Bryson and Natalia's wedding.  Here are the regular ones we took on our camera.  Their photographer just posted all of their photos today and while I looked through all of them, I got teary-eyed.  She captured their day just perfectly.  So many sweet moments.  Love.  Beautiful couple, beautiful day.

Love all the little places to eat and being able to sit outside and enjoy the weather.

Instead of worrying about hailing two cabs and getting to the wedding on time, we booked a party bus.  And got really crazy, as you can see. ;)

The happy couple!

The gorgeous bride with her proud father. :)

Married!

Amazing rooftop view.

Do you see Barb and I right in the middle?  That's us in the reflection!
