Happy Day!

My brother and Surina got married yesterday! It was a beautiful day. I found myself in tears several times throughout the day because I was so so so happy to see THEM so happy. Love it. It was such a good day.

I only took a few pictures on my phone. I wanted to enjoy the day and not hide behind the camera. My dad took lots of pictures so I'll post some of those once he sends them to me.

Bittersweet

As ready as I thought I was to go back to work, I'm still a little sad about it. I start next week. The girls and I have settled into a pretty good day-to-day routine and even venture out of the house every now and then. Yes, I'm exhausted by the time Dean gets home from work and yes, I could definitely use some time out of the house, and yes, I could use some adult interaction...but I've gotten used to juggling two kids and I kind of like it. :) I'm only going to be working Wednesday, Thursday, and Fridays 11-2 and I'll still have Mondays and Tuesdays off, so really, I'm getting the best of both worlds. I have no complaints. A few hours to be my own person three days a week and then I get to bring the girls home and be a mom. I'm very lucky to be able to do this thanks to being a part of a family business. And honestly, talk to me around 5:30 this evening when I'm holding a hungry, screaming Aubree trying to cook dinner with a whining Ayla wrapped around my leg...going back to work is good.

My three kids :)

"Hi, my middle name is Sassy."

Ayla is such a ham. She must get it from Dean because as a child, I was very shy and reserved. She is always so animated...hilarious.
I still am amazed at how different they look from eachother. Aubree's little hands are often up like this. She looks so dainty. :)

Aubree's 2-month check-up

We went in for Aubree's two month check up and shots today. She weighed in at 10 lbs. 3 oz. (32nd percentile), 23 inches long (69th percentile) and her head is at the 47th percentile. I was curious and looked back at Ayla's two month stats and she was exactly one whole pound heavier but a quarter of an inch shorter. Aubree is our little peanut. Dr. Davey said she looks great all around--physically and developmentally. She was so happy while he was checking her...even gave him several smiles. He said she has a great disposition. :) I was surprised at how calm she was laying there in just a diaper. She normally hates being naked.

He said her total amount of ounces consumed in a day is a bit low. At this age, she should be around 28 ounces. She usually only gets about 20 or 21 ounces. I told him about how it can take her a good 40 minutes to an hour to eat a measly three ounces or less because she falls asleep before she's done. I asked if it was time to change the level of nipple on her bottles. He said it was definitely taking her too long to eat and to go ahead and switch her and she should start eating more. Hopefully that helps.

She had to get three shots. :( I thought that maybe I had toughened up a bit having gone through all of Ayla's shots, but no. No, I am not any tougher. As soon as she started screaming, I started crying. I just feel so bad for them when they're that teeny tiny. They have no idea what's coming. And what made it even worse was that she was completely asleep when the first shot went in. What a horrible way to get woken up. Sigh. My poor baby.

Right now she is fast asleep in her swing with a full belly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't develop a fever from the shots. **Update--she did end up developing a fever and was very, very sleepy. After she ate at 3:00pm, she pretty much slept until almost 10:00pm. only waking to cry. :( She sounded soo sad and wouldn't eat a thing. She seemed miserable. We gave her some Tylenol and thankfully her fever went down and after skipping a whole feeding, she finally ate and had 4 ounces and went back to bed. It'll be interesting to see how she sleeps/eats overnight. I hope her fever stays away.

Two months!

Our little Aubree is two-months old today! She is smiling more and more lately and is slowly but surely plumping up eventhough she doesn't eat a whole lot. The most she'll eat at a time is 3 1/2 ounces, but it's rare that she is able to do it. We go in for her check-up on Tuesday so we'll see what Dr. Davey has to say about it. I'm sure she is just fine...just has a little belly. :) The past couple of nights, she has slept five to over six hours straight. We're getting somewhere! [knock on wood] I feel like I don't have a lot to update on her since I just posted a long entry a couple days ago...I'll post her 2-month stats after her appointment on Tuesday.

Another week down

I can't believe how quickly each week passes by lately. When Friday rolls around, I swear it was just Sunday night. Just the past few days, I've gotten used to taking both girls out by myself. Took me long enough. It's a bit of a circus getting in and out of the car, but I have a system. :) And it's not like we go far--it's still either SuperTarget or Hy-Vee. The people who work at these two stores know us...not sure if that's good or bad.

We have been making a slow transition to formula with Aubree. She still gets a little breastmilk everyday and some formula, too. She drinks it just fine, but she only seems to be pooping every two to two and a half days. Yikes. I'm a little concerned about it. As she nears the two-day mark, she seems to get pretty uncomfortable. Her two-month check-up is next Tuesday so I'll be asking Dr. Davey about it. She has started going just a teeny bit longer overnight between bottles. I won't go into detail...whenever I do, I jinx us and she ends up waking even more. She has recently discovered her hands. She puts her little fists up in the air and twists them around as she stares at them suspiciously with sideways glances until she goes cross-eyed. :) Every now and then she bops herself in the face or rubs her eyes so hard that she pokes herself...that really makes her mad. When she's awake and happy, she is so chill...but when she gets upset, she does not mess around. She turns bright red and screams until it turns into that horrible silent cry where you feel like she's not breathing. Not cool.

Ayla is still keeping us on our toes. She's always very busy and would absolutely love it if we could give her 100% of our attention. Although she gets frustrated when we can't because we're dealing with Aubree, she still loves her baby sister. She is very sweet and gentle with her...always giving her kisses. :) We've been so focused on the little milestones that Aubree is hitting that we've kind of lost track of the new things Ayla has been doing. It seems like in a blink of an eye, she has grown so much both physically and developmentally. She speaks so well and always surprises us with her words and thoughts. Some are quite hilarious--she told me that "Daddy is big like a garbage truck." She is totally a little girl now...there's no baby left in her. How did that happen so fast?

I got Ayla some fingerpaint...we haven't tried it since last summer. She is a bit of a freak about getting her fingers dirty. I figured since it had been a year since we last tried it, she might like it. It lasted about three minutes before she held up her little finger caked with paint and asked for a paintbrush. Maybe next year...

She fell asleep on the couch!

She dozed off during "quiet time"! I didn't think it would ever happen. I doubt she'll be asleep for long with Aubree making noises. **UPDATE** After I posted this, I thought, "Oh crap, what if she pees?" Although she is potty trained during the day (for the most part...accidents still happen now and then) she does not stay dry while she sleeps. I decided to try and slide a towel underneath her just in case. In the process, she, of course woke up. She only slept for 20 minutes and was pretty much hysterical when she woke up. So hysterical that she ended up peeing on the couch anyway. *SIGH* Should have just left her alone.

Mommy's little helper

Ayla loves all things laundry. I'm not sure where it came from because I despise it. She likes helping me toss dirty clothes from her hamper into the washer and then transferring the clothes from the washer into the dryer. It may take longer, but it actually does help me. :) Earlier this week, she wanted to help "fold" clothes. Now if I could only teach her how to put it all away. ;)

Playing doctor with her little sister.

"Ughhhh, mom, why do you make me do this?"

Our friend, Chris, was back in town for the weekend for another friend's wedding. He came over to meet Aubree for the first time.
